HOLISTIC LIFE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM

The Holistic Life Maintenance Program (HLMP) is designed to keep its participants as independent as possible utilizing the balance between mind, body and spirit. To understand the basic format of this program, one must understand how the mind and spirit aid in the balance of the body.

A holistic lifestyle encompasses “a way of living that enables an entirely happy and healthy life. Holistic living does not merely approach a healthy body, but also a healthy and happy mind and positive connections to others and to the world. Usually, people equate holistic living to what is natural-including what is natural to you and the world around you. To live a holistic lifestyle, you need to take care of all parts of yourself-not just the body or mind. In this lifestyle, you must consider that all parts of you are connected and can affect one another if they are not taken care of,” (naturalwellbeing.com, Jan 2019).

HLMP is for 40y/o and over female and male adults. It is conducted in our state-of -the art facility in the Mount Airy section of the city. The body component of HLMP will entail stretching and strengthening exercises which you can incorporate into your daily living activities. There will be a nutritional component which you will learn the importance of eating a balanced meal and participate in nutritional demonstrations. The mind and spirit component are intimately connected; therefore, this is the major category that is intertwined into the entire program. Participants will become very familiar with self-awareness and mindfulness. Self-Awareness is defined as the “ability to see yourself clearly and objectively through reflection and introspection,” (PositivePsychology.com).  “It is the conscious knowledge of one’s own character, feelings, motives and desires,” (Oxford Languages dictionary). Mindfulness is defined as “a mental state which is achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one’s feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations used as a therapeutic technique” (Oxford Languages dictionary). The spirit helps balance the mind and body but know that everyone has a spirit and it has nothing to do with religion. Maintaining and balancing these core values is the basis for our Holistic Life Maintenance Program.

During this program, we will be practicing all safety precautions as outlined in the most current CDC guidelines (ie. Temperature checks, masks, 6 feet apart, hand sanitizers). We also strongly recommend confirmation and/or documentation from participants of the most up-to-date colon cancer screenings. This is to ensure we are doing all we can to keep everyone knowledgeable about taking care of their entire well-being.
