Who Should Get a Colonoscopy?

1) Male/Female (non-African Americans) age 50 and above; every five years
2) African Americans (Male & Female) age 45 and older; every five years
3) Male/Female age 40 (35 for African Americans) to start if first degree relative (parents/full siblings) with Colon cancer; or 10 years prior to age of onset in relative!
4) Prior to age of onset in relative
5) Anybody seeing BLOOD with bowel movements
6) Anybody who has seen BLACK bowel movements
7) Unexplained or New onset CONSTIPATION/DIARRHEA
8) Unexplained WEIGHT LOSS

What Can You Do to Guarantee Never Getting Colon Cancer

1) There are NO SPECIAL FOODS
2) There are NO SPECIAL HERBS
3) There are NO SPECIAL BOWEL CLEANSERS
4) Getting TIMELY COLONOSCOPY is the ONLY THING that can contribute to PREVENTING COLON CANCER

“Five Servings” of Fiber Sources Each Day

I. Vegetable- All provide fiber; one is not better than the other
1/2 cup= 1 serving; raw or cooked

II. Fruits- All provide fiber; one is not better than the other
1 whole piece (fresh)= 1 serving
1/2 cup of canned/cooked= 1 serving

III. Whole grain breads- white & potato breads are not whole grain breads
2 slices= 1 serving
Examples- whole wheat, multi-grains, rye, etc.

IV. Whole grain cereals- not sugar cereals
3/4 cup= 1 serving
Examples- Raisin Bran, Shredded Wheat, Cream of Wheat, Oatmeal, Grits, multi-grain cereal, etc.

Review the nutritional facts section on products-if states, one serving of product provides 15% to 20% of daily-recommended amount, that’s a good fiber source.
